“High-powered, intricately wrought suspense.”—Janet Maslin, The New York Times
“Hold on tight. . . . This novel will give you whiplash as you rabidly turn pages. . . . May be [Lee Child’s] best.”—USA Today
New York City. Two in the morning. A subway car heading uptown. Jack Reacher, plus five other passengers. Four are okay. The fifth isn’t. And if you think Reacher isn’t going to get involved . . . then you don’t know Jack.
Susan Mark, the fifth passenger, had a big secret, and her plain little life was being watched in Washington, and California, and Afghanistan—by dozens of people with one thing in common: They’re all lying to Reacher. A little. A lot. Or just enough to get him killed. A race has begun through the streets of Manhattan, a maze crowded with violent, skilled soldiers on all sides of a shadow war. For Jack Reacher, a man who trusts no one and likes it that way, the finish line comes when you finally get face-to-face and look your worst enemy in the eye.
BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Lee Child's A Wanted Man.

“Propulsive . . . [Child is] an expert at ratcheting up tension.”—Los Angeles Times
“A top-notch thriller.”—Booklist (starred review)
“Edgy . . . thoroughly engrossing.”—The Miami Herald

Overly detailed and complex. Stuck it out for 300 pages and gave up. I have read a number of Reacher yarns and this one flunked the test. Not surprised it was so cheap, but save your ,money.
  • Excellent

I have had some issues with a few other Reacher books. Couldn’t put this one down, although Child’s obsession with detail can get pretty anal.
  • What’s up with all the errors?

i have only read the first 50 pages and this may turn out to be a very good book, however the number of errors and typos in the text is seriously distracting. I expect better from Apple iBooks.

Great book but you have to pay attention things in the beginning have an affect on things latter on. Some inside humor all in all the book is the kind I like to read
  • Another hit!

I thought Child did a great job building suspense after suspense. A real page turner.
  • Jack Reacher at his best

    By Wilmington 19805
Lee Child has given Jack Reacher a little more grace and sophistication in this novel. The book has a great pace with well researched plot lines and supporting data with plenty of suspense and hidden agendas to go along. This book was a great late night read!
  • Great book

The mystery was well developed. I enjoyed the way the suspense built and the story kept me on my toes. The twists and turns in the story gave to an unpredictable conclusion. I have the book and already read and reread unite a number of times. I highly recommend this book if your looking for a good, well written read.
  • Uh... No.

I'm only halfway through. I'm tired of Jack Reacher and his unexplainable, unsupported, "I know what's going on and I'm going to tell everyone." Add to that a lack of suspense or action. I'm not claiming to read any good books but I would recommend Baldacci instead - at maybe 4 stars.
  • First Time Reader of Lee Child ...

    By The Kearnal
I enjoyed this book and will certainly read in the future. The book did a nice job of building suspense and laying out a complex story line. At times I got a bit tired of overly detailed descriptions of the scenery and glossed over. Overall I like the Jack Reacher character and the 1st person narrative ... nice discovery of a new author to read.
