Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author John Sandford continues his phenomenal Prey series—and “for those who think they know everything they need to know about Lucas Davenport, [Field of Prey] proves them wrong…” (Huffington Post)

On the night of the fifth of July, in Red Wing, Minnesota, a boy smelled death in a cornfield off an abandoned farm. When the county deputy took a look, he found a body stuffed in a cistern. Then another. And another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, it was fifteen and counting, the victims killed over just as many summers, regular as clockwork.

How could this happen in a town so small without anyone noticing? And with the latest victim only two weeks dead, Davenport knows the killer is still at work, still close by. Most likely someone the folks of Red Wing see every day. Won’t they be surprised.

This is a book that I could have read in 24 hours. It was too intense at times, so I gave my. Rain a break. The writing was excellent. SPOILER ALERT: My only issue is the Flowers storyline. Is it continued in another book, or was that the end?
  • I enjoy all of Sanford’s books

Typical Sandford. By that I mean, great read, well developed story. As the prey series has evolved it's like getting a letter from home. Nice to see familiar characters develop.
  • Not the usual suspects

Sanford has not disappointed in 25 years with Davenport, (now) his adoptive daughter and/or Virgil Flowers (hippie Minnesota fisher-cop). This one brings all the protagonists to bear with multiple story lines and crimes that tie together nicely with an all time twist while (at the same time) introducing a new detective to the lineup. Makes sense as Davenport is getting on with kid in college etc. Really good stuff.
